The following actions have been taken by Network Rail concerning the Leicester to Burton line:
The traffic crossings (TC’s) at Coalville, Bardon and Desford are being completely renewed. The notable omission from this work is the crossing at Swannington. The TC’s at Coalville and Bardon are manually controlled and the TC at Desford is controlled by the East Midlands Signal centre at Derby.
The line from Mantle Lane through to Burton has been temporarily mothballed. This is a Covid-19 contingency due to a reduction in freight working over that portion of the line. We hope normal service resumes in the not too distant future. Recent activity to re-ballast track was noted at Castle Gresley, it is apparent that Network Rail is using the mothball period to catch up with routine maintenance.
